Things they don’t tell you about having the POX as an Adult...

''It’s a lot worse as an adult!'' ''that’s really bad to have as adult!'' They told me...
''Very rare at this age…apparently its really bad to have when you’re older''... if ONE more person tells me this… I might just lose it.

I went to the Dr at the first sign of a strange looking blister… no actually I went at the 3rd  or 4th sign…Got dressed up and hid what needed to be hidden…

"Dr, I had a fever over the weekend and it just got worse, went to another Dr. yesterday – who told me to take some painkillers and rest – the fever should pass… but then I woke up this morning… [insert dramatic music]…with …[slowly untie big oversized fluffy coat]…[slowly remove scarf from neck - exposing the constellation of red dots and dashes] … THIS!

Dr Jumps back (I SAW THIS with my own eyes...!   (it might have been more of a giant step backwards though)..!) “this looks like… CHICKEN POX… “ [zoom into Dr’s face]…dum dum DUUUUM..

Yea…no shit…that’s why I been covered up like a streaker sitting quietly, minding my own business…''keep your voice down Dr. people freak out when they hear the word CHI-CKEN –POX”

Then to be told, that they will have to let the government know if I do have the CPox… EPDIEMIC much??!! Problem is I live in one side of town and work on the other..well played Chicken Pox…you got the city covered.

So get some blood taken and get ready for a week of DANGER- you know, because it’s so bad to have this disease as adult. I sit in my car for at least a good 40min and try and understand WHY, where & HOW I got this infectiousness…

I’m embarrassed to be in Public (little did I know what lay ahead).

Went home and into quarantine (my room) where food is brought to me…

No one told me that as an adult the chicken POX takes a lot from you EMOTIONALLY… never mind the mental and physical…I look in the mirror and I have the acne I never had... ... &  at 27 its hard to deal with puberty… I am a monster…red  marks popping up everywhere…EVERY _WHERE, some with oozing yellow surfaces that just want to BURST… some that have burst and are a maroon like scabby colour… on your chin…on your nose…in your ear, on your eye lid, in the middle of your eye socket, at both ends of your eyes…
No one tells you they will be in your armpits  - no one tells you to shave before day 2 comes along…after day 2 there’s no chance of shaving… or having a really GOOOD shower… and giving your head a really god scratch and wash.

No tells you they’re gonna pop up …there….

And IN your MOUTH! On the back of your legs, all over your back neck on your SCALP!  I haven’t worn a bra for 5 days! So in short – I have white-head zits all over your face, hairy armpits, legs and could do with a real good head scratch. I feel like a GODESS!

As a child your body helps you forget and move on… as a child you’re not so developed to really be able to FEEL the pox…really get in touch with it.
Your mum look s after you – and you don’t question…how could you – there is always jelly and custard and blackcurrant flavoured antihistamine syrup.
You have a LOT of friends that want to play with you and come over (every kid’s parent wants them to come play - more than ever) mum looks after you and you hardly know you’re sick because you’re just…NOT an adult.

When you’re an adult with the Pox of the chicken… NO ONE…wants to play…you have a plague… you  LOOK infectious…you scare people…you CANNOT go outside (in public- because a) – you look like s*&^ and b)- can't do that to society – someone else already got ME in this mess!!

SO, NO ONE wants to play – and they probably run away…the mirror is not my friend…you feel sick when you see yourself – you feel EXTREMELY sorry for yourself – the antihistamine doesn't taste like blackcurrant or strawberries…IF YOU HAVE ANTIHISTAMINE! You feel like a drug addict at the amount of PAIN KILLERS you drink… you try not get your heart rate up because it’s ‘dangerous’ at  your old age…there is...NO jelly..NO custard… and no refuge.

You can’t sleep on your left side because you have painful itchy swollen bits on your lefts side of the body… but you can’t sleep on the right side…because you have them all over the right side of your head & face…you try sleeping on you  back… but…alas… you opt to sleep on the right side of your body with your head turned the complete other way so that you sleep on the left side of you head…hmm…comfort. 2 painkillers and your in lala land. Apparently a stiff neck is symptom of the chicken pox… it is NOW!

Yes, chicken pox is bad as an adult…not because your body is in danger but just because it is so humiliating… thank goodness for the DOG- he feels sorry for me and hasn't left my side… (probably because he saw how scary my face got! ) he’s like poor human…look at yourself!

So if anyone asks WHY it is so bad to have Chicken Pox as an Adult…that is why… the sheer beauty of the chicken pox that no one tells you about…
...there we go Dr Google… that’s what you are missing.
